### DigiRig Quick Start Guide for FT-891 & Windows 10 Setup
---
### Introduction
Hey everyone! Today, I’ll walk you through setting up the DigiRig with an FT-891 radio and a Windows 10 laptop. This compact tool makes it easy to get on digital modes in the field. Here’s a quick guide to get you up and running.

### What You’ll Need
FT-891 radio
Windows 10 laptop
DigiRig (with USB, audio, and serial cables)
Ferrite chokes (recommended to reduce interference)
---
### Step-by-Step Setup
- 1. Unpack and Prepare Your DigiRig
DigiRig comes with an audio cable, green serial cable, and USB cable.
I recommend adding ferrite chokes to reduce any interference.
Plug the USB-C cable from DigiRig into the laptop.
Let any drivers install automatically.
Connect the black audio cable from DigiRig’s black port to the FT-891.
Use a USB-B (printer) cable to connect the radio to the laptop.

### Software Setup
**1. Download WSJT-X**
Grab WSJT-X from their official site. It’s a straightforward install.
**2. Configure Audio in WSJT-X**
Power on your FT-891.
In WSJT-X, go to File > Settings > Audio.
Set both input and output to USB PNP Sound Device.
**3. Set Radio and CAT Control in WSJT-X**
Settings > Radio:
CAT Control is set to COM4.
Baud rate should be 9600 (set in FT-891’s Deep F menu under setting 0506).
Set PTT method to RTS on COM9 (DigiRig’s COM port).
In Deep F menu, reduce HF SSB Power to about 20-30W to avoid overheating.
**4. Test the Connection**
Use WSJT-X’s Test CAT and Test PTT buttons.
CAT should show green; PTT should show red if connected correctly.
Use Device Manager if you need to confirm COM ports (unplug and re-plug cables to verify port numbers).

### Troubleshooting Tips
If you see a “no sound device connected” error, add ferrite chokes to all cables (antenna, USB, audio).
Double-check cable connections and COM port settings.
Make sure the baud rate matches in both WSJT-X and your FT-891.

### Making a Contact
Calling CQ
Select an open frequency in WSJT-X and call CQ to see if anyone replies.
Adjust settings if no response.

### Final Notes
Don’t forget to add your call sign and grid square in WSJT-X’s General tab.
