About

I got into radio at 36 here in San Diego, starting out with GMRS before making the jump into ham radio. What pulled me in was the mix of technology, learning, and the simple fun of making real connections over the air.

Once I got interested, I started studying for my license and went down the rabbit hole of frequencies, propagation, gear, and operating practices. Since then, radio has become one of those hobbies that keeps opening new doors, there’s always something new to learn, build, or try.

Being in San Diego makes it even better. Between the local radio community and the amazing spot on the coast, it’s been a great place to get on the air and keep exploring what this hobby can do.

Nagoya NA-771G Antenna for GMRS

Tried out the Nagoya NA-771G on my GMRS handheld. It’s a lot longer than the stock antenna, but it actually works. Definitely getting out farther and people say I sound clearer.

It’s supposed to be tuned for GMRS and from what I can tell, it is. SWR looks good.

Only thing—it’s kind of long for carrying around, but for general use it’s solid.

Anyone else using this one?

What’s Your Daily Carry Handheld Radio?

Whether you're out hiking, commuting, or just monitoring repeaters from the garage, what's the HT (handheld transceiver) you always have within arm’s reach?

  • - Is it rugged and reliable?
  • - Lightweight and simple?
  • - Loaded with digital modes?
  • - Just sentimental?

Post a quick photo or tell us what you carry and why it’s your go-to. Even better if you show it in the wild! Clipped to your pack, running APRS on the dash, or keeping you company on the trail.

Let’s compare gear and maybe get some new ideas!

What logging software or app do you use?

Hey everyone! I'm curious about how you're keeping track of your QSOs.

There are so many options out there… from classic paper logs to modern apps and cloud-based tools. Some hams love N3FJP, Log4OM, HAMRS, or Ham Radio Deluxe. Others stick with QRZ, CloudLog, or even roll their own spreadsheets or Raspberry Pi setups.

So, what do you use? And more importantly, why do you like it?

Drop your favorite logging method below. Whether it's old-school or high-tech, I’d love to hear what’s working for you. If you’ve switched from one to another, what made you

Need help choosing a logo for HamLike.com

    Hey everyone,

I’ve been working on some logo designs for HamLike.com and ended up with 5 different versions. I’m not totally sold on any one of them yet, so I figured I’d ask for your input.

Take a look at the logos below (they’ll be numbered 1–5) and let me know what you think.

    • - Which one feels right for the site?
    • - Which one doesn’t work?
    • - Would you change anything?
    • - Or if none of them feel like the right fit and you’ve got a better idea — I’d love to hear it.

This site is about community, so it makes sense to let the community
